Demand action against poverty and climate change on May 6
Whatever the election result, behind the door of no 10 will be a Prime Minister with the power to cut global poverty, and commit to social justice. This is why this election matters and we must act now!
Whilst all of Britain’s parties recognise that climate change is the greatest challenge facing our generation it has yet to be discussed within the election campaign, with the election primarily focussing on the domestic economy. But things don’t have to stay that way, we can put the issues of climate change, poverty and social justice back on the agenda. Now is the time to act, question your local candidates and ensure freedom, fairness and quality of life are no longer an aspiration but a reality across the globe. The issues central to CAFOD’s future must remain at the top of the governments agenda, these issues cannot be ignore, they may have been pushed to the back pages of the parties manifestos but we can make them a priority once again. May 6th gives us the opportunity to work together for the common good by joining a nationwide push to make excessive greenhouse-gas emissions, insufficient aid and unfinished debt cancellation, things of the past.
Climate change is the greatest challenge facing this generation.
Action speaks louder than words, that’s why CAFOD is asking you, the British public to act now and help those less fortunate. Make sure your candidate knows that poverty, climate change and issues of social justice cannot be ignored. Don’t worry we don’t want you to campaign to be the next Prime Minister or start a 90 day hunger strike, making your voice heard has never been simpler! Pick up a CAFOD campaign card, email or write to your local candidate – let them know about the issues you care about. Remind them that the financial crisis is a global one and it’s not just the people of Britain that have hit hard, thousands of people are dying every day due to simple problems like a lack of clean water or insufficient medical treatment.
Millions of people nationwide will lobby their candidates to demand action against poverty and climate change before May 6th, join them! Or why not go the further mile and become an MP correspondent, all it takes is three letters a year and you may be helping to change the shape of future government policy!
