General Election: In Focus:Sheffield Central

Kick starting our own election campaign this week we want to highlight where in Hallam your vote really matters. Throughout the election campaign we will be bringing to your attention the issue, concerns and topics central to CAFOD’s goals. Key to this is knowing where your vote really matters and how it can change the shape of the future government policy, ensuring climate change, poverty and issues of social justice are always on the minds of our countries politicians.  In focus this week – Sheffield Central. Nationally this may not be the most marginal seat but could throw up some surprises. So who are the candidates? With incumbent Labour MP Richard Caborn, who has represented the constituency since 1983, stepping down, the fields right open and certainly a seat to watch. Standing for election within Sheffield Central are:

Paul Blomfield, Labour

Jillian Creasy, Green Party

Jeffrey Shaw, UK Independence Party

Andrew Lee, Conservative

Tracey Smith, British National Party

Paul Scriven, Liberal Democrat

Will Paul Scriven’s record as leader of the council impact upon your vote? Or will Paul Blomfield’s previous job as manager of University of Sheffield Students Union sway the large student population within the constituency? Andrew Lee says by voting blue, he will ensure Sheffield goes green – but will he keep this commitment if he were to become your MP? These issues remain unresolved but you can change the shape of things to come, campaign on behalf of CAFOD to ensure issues such as poverty and climate change are central within Sheffield Central! Write now to your candidates to ensure they commit to reducing poverty and further reductions in emissions. It is you – their constituents – who have the power of persuasion. You can show politicians why you care and why taking these issues seriously is vital in winning votes.
