The parishes of St. Ann’s and St. Mary’s came together this year to support the Lent Fast Day and Hungry for Change campaign and have done an amazing job in doing so.
One action they took involved putting together an information pack containing; information sheets about the Hungry for Change Campaign, prayer cards, action cards and Lent Fast Day envelopes which were handed out the week before the Fast Day at each Mass.
As well as this, at the start of Fairtrade Fortnight, they held a Big Brew at St. Ann’s and put together information displays in the Parish Hall. The Big Brew raised £25 which was split between CAFOD and Traidcraft. They raised around £360 including Gift Aid through the Lent Fast Day envelopes!
The Children’s Liturgy Group at St. Ann’s used the material on the CAFOD website throughout Lent, and it was fantastic to hear them talking about Makuu! On the 17th March the children did some seed planting in the Parish Hall after Mass. They have taken their planting home to nurture but they intend to give them to their fellow parishioners when they have grown.
In school the children learnt more about Makuu and brought in their loose change to fill watering cans in their classrooms. They raised another £52 for CAFOD during Lent!
And if all of this amazing work wasn’t enough, they completed a square for the Hallam School’s Hunger Cloth which was displayed in the Winter Gardens on 20th March as well as making a Hunger Cloth for each of the churches!
