5 pupils and three staff members joined with CAFOD and supporters of the IF campaign to ask the Prime Minister to take a lead on ensuring that there is enough food for everyone. This is because nearly 1 billion people go to bed hungry every night and two million children die from malnutrition every year. We’ve made progress in other areas, but hunger is still the great scandal of our age. All around the world, even in the UK people are struggling to feed their families.
This weekend the UK is hosting a hunger summit and the pupils told David Cameron that he must persuade the world’s most powerful leaders who meet as the G8 to ensure there is enough for everyone. Governments can make a difference by stopping big companies from dodging paying tax in poor countries and forcing them to be honest and open about their actions that stop the poorest communities getting enough food.
