Tour de Fred visits Hallam Diocese

Fred and Mark of team ‘Tour de Fred’ spent part of the last day of their 800K cycle tour in Hallam. At the end of their 18 day tour through the 22 dioceses in England & Wales, the team were greeted warmly by a group of local volunteers.

Following a shared supper, Fred and Mark inspired everyone by emphasising “We’re not stars, we’re ordinary people trying to do some good”. Thanks to the Tour de Fred and the kindness of supporters, Fred and Mark have brought about lots of good! They have met and talked to more than 700 school children and inspired many more CAFOD supporters. They have given witness to the fact that we can all make a difference by supporting ‘Hungry for Change’ and CAFODs work for the poorest in our world. During the evening, local volunteer Alex Krzyz, shared personal reflections after completing the gruelling 3 peak challenge for CAFOD earlier in June. This story triggered what volunteers named a God moment; because Fred went on to explain how he was helped to acquire his second bike by the 3 peaks cycle shop in Settle.

The evening concluded with the cutting of the Tour de Fred & 3 Peak Cake, which was specially baked and decorated for the occasion. Needless to say we ate and gave thanks for our working together as community for CAFOD.
