Young CAFOD supporters launch One Climate, One World campaign for schools at Brentwood Cathedral

CAFOD’s Young Climate Bloggers in the Diocese of Hallam have joined young CAFOD supporters from across the country to launch the ‘One Climate, One World’ campaign for schools at Brentwood Cathedral.

Meet our Young Climate Bloggers!

Pupils from All Saints’ School, along with other Young Climate Bloggers and local pupils, took part in the schools’ launch of the campaign at The Cathedral Church of St. Mary and St. Helen on Friday 23 January. The Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, answered the children’s questions on climate change in the Cathedral later in the morning.

The campaign launch saw the young people assemble as a giant heart with pledges to change something in their lives to tackle climate change, symbolising their wish to see action taken for the love of the things that matter most to them.

CAFOD’s ‘One Climate, One World’ campaign is calling on party leaders to secure an ambitious global deal to cut carbon emissions and to move towards sustainable energy for everyone. Climate change, which scientists believe with 95% certainty is being driven by human activity, is the biggest threat to tackling poverty worldwide – and is already affecting communities both overseas and in the UK.

Lucy Jardine from CAFOD said:

“It’s been great to see so many young people from across the country join together to act on climate change – committing to make changes in their own lives and to demand action from politicians.

“The people CAFOD works with are experiencing the effects of changes in climate right now, so we’re proud that our young people are standing in solidarity with others who are being affected around the world.

“CAFOD would like to thank all the children, teachers, chaplains and staff who helped make today’s event such a success.”
