Ellie’s sponsored swim for CAFOD

Jenny Seymour, one of the CAFOD schools volunteers in Hallam, met with Ellie after her successful sponsored swim raising £150 for CAFOD

Ellie mid-way through her sponsored swim fundraising for CAFOD after being inspired by her schools workshop

Ellie goes to St Wilfrids Primary school in the Hallam Diocese which now has regular visits from their local schools volunteer, Jenny Seymour.  Ellie was inspired by a recent workshop which took place in her classroom – the Rough Guide to CAFOD – and her class were tasked by their class teacher (and Head of RE), Mark Conway, to think of innovative ways of fundraising for CAFOD or helping with CAFOD’s work.

Ellie decided she could do a sponsored swim.  Ellie’s parents thought she would swim maybe 20 lengths.  She did a couple of practice swims at her swimming pool in Dronfield, but on the day she just kept on going….and going….and going – until she had swum 60 lengths!  Amazing work Ellie – thank you so much.

How can you help fundraise for CAFOD?

Supporters continue their Amazing Fundraising for CAFOD

Some of our wonderful supporters are doing some great fundraising events to raise money for CAFOD over the next few months…

James Wilcockson aims to raise £2000 for CAFOD by getting sponsored to run the Virgin London Marathon on 21st April this year. Already he has managed to raise an incredible £1197.

Runner James

James explains why he chose CAFOD as the charity he would like to donate his sponsor money too: “Running for CAFOD was the obvious choice for me. I am aware of the fantastic charity work CAFOD undertakes, such as the proactive food aid and fair trade schemes. I’ve participated in other racing events for CAFOD but nothing of this magnitude, I’m very excited about it. As a regular attendee of mass and an ex Catholic high school student, I am conscious of what my Catholic upbringing has given me and it will be a privilege to give something back.”

To sponsor James click here to visit his ‘JustGiving’ page where you can make donations and help him to reach his £2000 target.

Alex Krzyz is also walking the Three Yorkshire Peaks for CAFOD on the 8th of June. Click here to visit Alex’s ‘JustGiving’ page where you can make donations.

Good luck with your training guys!

Water bottles and walking boots

Earlier this year, we promised a CAFOD water bottle to anyone taking part in our local sponsored walks – the May Day Trek and the Sheffield Night Hike – who managed to get 50 sponsors or more (to celebrate our 50th Anniversary, you see) . Three of our wonderful walkers – David Wood, Fr Don Stoker and Jean-Luc Chartron – all managed this great achievement and last week we belatedly got round to making good on our promise.

Jean-Luc – who raised a fantastic £656 by doing the Night Hike – sent us a lovely email with the story of how he got involved with the Night Hike, and I thought it was worth sharing with you all: Continue reading
